The standard CMMI Appraisal Method for Process Improvement(SCAMPI) is designed to provide benchmark quality ratings relative to the CMMI models. A SCAMPI Class A appraisal, is the detailed method of conducting appraisal within the context of the CMMI model. When an organization has implemented a planned set of process improvements and needs to formally benchmark it’s process withing the context of the CMMI model.SCAMPI A is the only appraisal method that provides a recognized CMMI maturity or Capability level rating.

Sustainment Appraisals

SCAMPI B is often carried out when an organization needs to accurately evaluate its progress towards a targeted CMMI maturity level. A SCAMPI B is called for when an organization needs to evaluate its progress towards abut at a lower costs than a SCAMPI A. SCAMPI B appraisals provide detailed findings and demonstrates the evaluated practices would be rated as satisfactorily implemented in a SCAMPI A appraisal.

Evaluation Appraisals

SCAMPI C is often carried out for developing an in-depth understanding of your current state of process performance. SCAMPI C does not result in a CMMI “rating,”. SCAMPI C is used a quick reference for self assessment of process adequacy The outputs of the SCAMPI C include gap analysis between the organizational process and CMMI practices ,findings, recommendations, suggestions for improvement.

CMMI (Capability Maturity Model Integration) is a model for process improvement that provides organizations with necessary the elements for an effective process. The model can be used as a guideline for process improvement on any project or department or even a complete organization. In order to meet specific business goals, it is imperative to streamline operations. You can also set a standardized guideline for quality which would prove to be a reference point for CMMI appraisals.

CMMI appraisal helps organizations align their processes and activities with their business goals. It drives the company towards decision-making project and process management, which is based on specific measurements. It views both people and process as assets of organizations and focuses on integrating them to meet their business goals. The benefits of CMMI are reflected in every part of the product and services offered. Improved quality and delivery is the ultimate result which leads to higher customer satisfaction. It also helps in sustaining consistent quality across geographical boundaries.
